Overview:
This film is a beautiful journey with Don Shirley and Tony Lip. It converses about the friendship between the two. The film is the MasterCraft of Peter Farrelly to the date. The emotions attached to the film are so strong. The journey through the film unites the two perspectives of Shirley and Tony, which were almost opposites in the beginning of their journey. Sean Porter’s cinematography is on the top notch. The subtle music done by Kris Bowers adds grace to the film. It’s inspired from a real life incident which adds more life to the movie. A definite joy for everyone who loves feel good cinema. For me personally, it has given a sense of inner happiness and joy at the end of the movie, which is really rare in this modern era of cinema. In short, it is a must watch😘
More into the movie:
The film talks about racism which had it’s dominance in US in the 20th Century. It is the story of Don Shirley a famous Jazz musician, who had been discriminated as a black. He was rich, but never got any respect for his merit. He is disappointed at this. He is emotionally weak and wants to be in a better respectable position. Tony Lip on the other hand, is a man who clearly has a segregated mind between blacks and whites. He lives in the world of whites who doesn’t care what happens in the world of blacks. These two men with polar ideologies comes together for a journey to the south, to Alabama. Tony is appointed as the driver of Shirley and he has to protect Shirley from the attacks of the whites. The racial discrimination was more hard on the southern states and Tony had put in a considerable effort in protecting Shirley. Green Book is a book which contains the list of motels, restaurants, bars etc which allows the entry of blacks. The film is all about the reformation in the characters of Shirley and Tony.
